Dameus: Strolling in Memorium

Overview

Dameus: Strolling in Memorium explores the relationship between cycles of information and memory in regard to identity, culture, and agency.

Each figure is an image of my grandfather Dameus sourced at the time of his passing. He was the first on my mother’s side of the family to immigrate to America, from Haiti.

Visual motifs in mark-making imply time, data, and information, as well as many that represent faces.

In cycles of loss, information passes on. By acknowledging what is gone, we celebrate the impact of the past on the present.
