Overview:
Offering explores the liminal experience of mounting during a Haitian Vodou ritual.
Mounting is when a priest (Ougan) or priestess (Mambo) presents an offering to commune with ancestral spirits (Iwa). The spirit will then place the ougan/mambo in a trance state, allowing the spirit to speak through them.
The cup in this case represents a typical offering of coffee, rum, and gunpowder offered to the Petwo a family of spirits often associated with anger and retribution.
Specifications:
- 4 panels 18” x 24”
- Pastels, ink, marker, pen and colored pencils
- In the cup: coffee grounds and modgepodge
